Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Health Sciences (Business Emphasis)

The B.A.A.S. in Health Sciences is available for students who transfer to TWU from a community college with a minimum of 15 semester credit hours (SCH) of WECM (workforce education) and a minimum of 12 SCH of academic courses.  Coursework must be completed prior to transfer.  To complete the B.A.A.S. degree at TWU, students will complete any additional core curriculum courses required for a four-year health sciences degree, 33 SCH in health sciences courses, and any electives needed in order to complete the 120 SCH needed for graduation; 36 upper-level SCH will be required. 

Any student admitted to TWU for completion of the B.A.A.S. who decides to change majors will be required to re-apply to TWU for the degree and major desired. In such cases, technical SCH transferred to TWU will be removed from the TWU transcript.

Marketable Skills

Defined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's 60x30 Strategic Plan as, "Those skills valued by employers that can be applied in a variety of work settings, including interpersonal, cognitive, and applied skills areas. These skills can be either primary or complementary to a major and are acquired by students through education, including curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities."

  1. Effectively plan a health education/promotion program.
  2. Effectively evaluate a health education/promotion program.
  3. Effectively communicate with a range of audiences in a health education/promotion setting.
  4. ​Effectively demonstrate ethical and professional responsibilities in a health education/promotion setting.

All applicants must meet the general undergraduate admission requirements.

Policies

The following policies apply to all undergraduate students in the School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology:

  1. A minimum grade of C is required in all courses in the Health Studies, Kinesiology, and Public Health majors.  If a student earns a grade of D or F in a Health Studies, Kinesiology, or Public Health course, the student must retake the course.  A course in which a student earns a grade of less than C (D or F) may be repeated only once.
  2. A student who earns a grade of less than C (D or F) twice in the same Health Studies, Kinesiology, or Public Health course will be dismissed from the School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology.
  3. Students receiving a grade of I, D, or F in a Health Studies, Kinesiology, or Public Health course may not progress to courses for which that course is a prerequisite.
  4. If the cumulative GPA drops below 2.75, the student must raise it to 2.75 within the next three semesters of enrollment, or they will be dismissed from the School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology. 
  5. A student must have completed all coursework in the degree plan prior to enrolling in internship/student teaching. B.S. in Health Studies and B.S. in Public Health students must also complete the Health Studies Exit Exam prior to enrolling in internship.
