Academic Fresh Start

Under the provisions of the Texas Education Code, Section 51.931, and as modified by the Texas Senate Bill 365, a Texas resident may elect to forfeit all academic coursework earned five or more years prior to the requested enrollment date at Texas Woman's University. An applicant who is admitted under this plan may not receive credit for courses completed five or more years before the start date of the semester to which they have been admitted. Students approved for Academic Fresh Start must also meet current freshman or transfer admission requirements.

Financial aid history or accumulated award limits, and excess hours policies will apply to coursework discarded for Academic Fresh Start.

If a student who enrolls under this program completes a prescribed course of study, earns a baccalaureate degree, and applies for admission to a postgraduate or professional program offered by a public institution of higher education, the admitting institution will consider only the grade point average of the applicant established by the coursework completed after the student enrolled under this plan (along with other criteria the institution normally uses to evaluate applicants for admission).

Note:

  • Fresh Start must be requested at the time of application to TWU.
  • An applicant requesting Fresh Start must be a Texas Resident for tuition purposes.
  • Applicants must provide Texas Woman's University with official transcripts from every institution attended.
  • If previously accepted to TWU without applying for Fresh Start, it may be requested during readmission to the University if one calendar year has lapsed since last enrollment.
  • Students must demonstrate college readiness to enroll in courses subject to TSI standards.
  • Courses taken to complete and award a baccalaureate degree are not eligible for Fresh Start.
  • Courses removed by the Fresh Start program are not applicable to core curriculum requirements or course prerequisites.
  • Once the Fresh Start provision is claimed and the student has enrolled, the provision cannot be reversed.
  • An applicant may use Fresh Start only once at TWU.
  • Credit and GPA's earned prior to the student's Fresh Start will not be used to evaluate admission to graduate or professional programs.

Applicants must provide:

  • Completed university application.
  • Application fee.
  • All official college transcripts (including the coursework that will be considered for forfeiture if Academic Fresh Start is approved).
  • Application for Fresh Start.
