Texas Success Initiative (TSI)

Texas law requires all undergraduate students enrolling at Texas Woman’s University to be assessed for college readiness in English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) and Math. The Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) evaluates your readiness for college-level coursework in English language arts and reading (ELAR) and Math. It is not a pass/fail assessment.

Students must attempt the TSIA2 before enrolling in classes per the Texas Education Code. This test is offered regularly at TWU. Please visit Academic Testing Services to complete the pre-assessment activity, register, and pay for your test.

A student who does not achieve the minimum TSIA2 score and diagnostic in one or more areas is prohibited from registering for a TSI-ready course. They will need to meet individually with an academic advisor to determine an appropriate developmental education plan that strengthens those skills. Once a student has successfully completed the recommended development plan or retaken the assessment and met the minimum score(s), the student can proceed to take TSI-ready courses. Students who do not meet TSIA2 readiness standards will experience a registration restriction until those standards are met.

TSIA2 Exemptions & College Ready Scores

A student is exempt from this assessment if they meet college readiness benchmarks on the SAT, ACT, STAAR English III, or Algebra II EOCs, or successfully complete a recognized high school College Preparatory Course, among other ways. Click here for a complete list of TSIA2 exemptions.

A transfer student from out-of-state or a Texas private institution may be eligible to use transferred courses to satisfy TSI requirements. A student must have earned a satisfactory course grade in a course(s) emphasizing skill areas: English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR), and math. If not, the student must test for any or all skill areas and comply with all other TSIA2 requirements.
