The Master of Library Science with Certificate in Community Information program prepares professionals for careers as librarians and information specialists. The program provides students with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to be competent professionals in libraries and other information environments. Students develop competencies and skills in community engagement, which will help them expand library services, foster community-led collaborations and grant writing, and ensure libraries are an essential part of the social infrastructure. Students learn how to engage community members and organizations to facilitate positive change in their own communities. The Master of Library Science with Certificate in Community Information program is entirely online.
Accreditation
The Master of Library Science degree program at Texas Woman's University is accredited by the American Library Association Committee on Accreditation, with the status of Continued accreditation. The next comprehensive review visit is scheduled for 2025.
Marketable Skills
Defined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's 60x30 Strategic Plan as, "Those skills valued by employers that can be applied in a variety of work settings, including interpersonal, cognitive, and applied skills areas. These skills can be either primary or complementary to a major and are acquired by students through education, including curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities."

Special Requirements
A cumulative B average must be maintained. Any course with a grade of C cannot be applied toward the student’s degree. Students are allowed to repeat a course once to improve a grade. No graduate library science course may be taken more than twice.
