The programs in the College of Professional Education (COPE) advance knowledge through teaching, research, and service in order to foster thriving families, schools, and communities. The College houses three schools: the School of Human Sciences, the School of Education, and the School of Library and Information Studies.

Programs in COPE have earned a reputation for producing extraordinary professionals who are leaders in their communities. Our programs focus on the helping professions aimed at building better communities - one student, one person, and one family at a time. Through high-impact, hands-on learning experiences, we create opportunities for students to thrive.

The College of Professional Education offers undergraduate degrees in the areas of child development, child life, family studies, education, and early childhood education. Our educator preparation program offers opportunities for students to become certified to teach in pre-kindergarten, elementary, or middle schools, with additional specialization in bilingual education, English as a Second Language (ESL), special education, deaf and hard of hearing, and English, Language Arts and Reading (ELAR). Undergraduate degrees in secondary education may be obtained through the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Health Sciences.

The College also offers graduate degrees in the areas of library science, child development, child life, family studies, marriage and family therapy, counseling, school counseling, teaching, early childhood education, literacy education, special education, multilingual and multicultural studies, and educational leadership. In addition, the College offers programs preparatory to initial teacher certification and professional certification programs for school librarians, school counselors, principals, superintendents, reading specialists, and diagnosticians.

Educator preparation programs in the College are accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Undergraduate and graduate programs in Child Life are endorsed by the Association for Child Life Professionals (ACLP). The master's program in Library Science is accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). The master's program in Counseling and Development is accredited by The Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Education Programs (CACREP). The master's and doctoral program in Marriage and Family Therapy is accredited by The Commission of Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).
